Cooking With Family

I know cooking isn’t very exciting, but I find it very entertaining, you get to try and do different things you can just be creative. Me and my family love to cook, it’s a way of bonding and just sharing laughs and smiles with each other. Me and my dad are a big fan of cooking doughy recipes I guess like pizza, and perogies, my dad’s side of the family’s history comes from Ukraine and everyone knows Ukraine is well known for their perogies, and that’s me and my dad’s specialities I usually roll the dough out while my dads making the potatoes, I’m kind of picky when it comes to ingredients, so I like just the potatoes and onion and of course the normal spices. My mom’s side of the family is from Germany but for this isn’t a recipe from there but me and my mom are into salad type stuff you could say. We made up this recipe it is called “Blended Mix” it has carrots, broccoli, cucumbers, cheese, and vinegar its surprisingly good and all you must do is blend all this and serve it, I suppose you would have to be a vinegar fan to like it cause its kind of bitter. Another recipe is this salad thing it doesn’t have a name though, we should probably make one, well basically it’s a normal salad but we add chickpeas, and we also make the Caesar sauce for it I will say I don’t do the sauce, but my mom does and it’s amazing! Me and my Omi don’t really cook together as often as I would like but she makes this recipe it’s a German dish it’s like a red soup I’m not a big fan but my mom and dad like. My sister is obsessed over baking whether its cookies or brownies, but for me I’m not a huge chocolate fan but I do love myself a good chocolate chip cookie. My aunt makes them the best something about her cooking is just so good she has her own recipe book I don’t get to cook or see her often because she lives in Hong Kong but whenever she comes down to visit that’s the first thing, we do this year when she came down, we made this Greek salad I’m not exactly sure what was in it but it was so good, I hope u enjoyed ha-ha.

Where I’m From

By Julia Doolan

I am from the gears switching as I race down the hill going all the way around town till it’s dark.

I’m from waking up at the crack of dawn to go see my cousins at my ma’s, we play, we fight, we race, we cry but we love each other great.

From dancing with my friends to karate kicking with my sister. Little blurs speeding my rod reeling in as fast as I can but realise I must put another bait on.

I am from the smell of dough everywhere, as I flip it up in the air. It goes everywhere, my dad looks at me with despair, I mash the potatoes while dad folds the edges, we finish we fry, and it tasted great.

I am from the smell of wet hay around me as I scoop the grain against the bucket while the rain fills my boots, neighs to moos to barking I’ve dealt with it all

I am from the feeling of the sand in my shoes as I yell grounders to my friends, the red and yellow playground shakes as we jump around. Our parents staring making sure we don’t hurt ourselves.

I am from the diamond, Taylor pitching, Morgan swinging, me running, watching each other while we finish the game. Sharing snacks pouring water on our head laying in the grass while the team shakes hands.

I’m from words with my Omi but my sister can’t understand me, my mom’s proud of me and the words I can speak. I’m proud of my history and where my family brought me, I wish I could visit where my mom’s side came from.
